Doctors find it a bit difficult to pin down the symptoms of Lyme Disease because they can so often look like other ailments. Plus, other ailments can so easily look like the symptoms of Lyme Disease but turn out to be something else. It’s not easy, even for doctors.
There is of course the tell-tale rash that can look like a bull’s eye. However, in 25% of people, the rash does not show up as one of the symptoms of Lyme Disease! One thing for sure, a red circular rash on your skin surrounded by a ring of red rash, forming a bull’s eye pattern, is likely to be a symptom of the disease. Be careful not to confuse it with a spider bite, however.
The initial stages of Lyme Disease after the rash appears make you feel like you have the flu. Then it’s like you have arthritis symptoms: joint pain and swelling.
One of the commonly overlooked symptoms of Lyme Disease is a memory of being bitten by a tick. Doctors actually look for this symptom when diagnosing the disease. It’s as important as the famous target rash.
Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection. It can eventually spread to other parts of the body so it’s important to get it treated. The heart, joints and nervous system are all at risk if symptoms of Lyme Disease are ignored and a doctor is not consulted. If you don’t get antibiotic treatment for it, you can get arthritis, heart problems, neurological disorders.
